He graduated in Civil Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Bari in 1988. PhD in Geotechnical Engineering at the Polytechnic University of Turin.
Confirmed Researcher in Geotechnical Engineering and Adjunct Professor at the Polytechnic University of Bari. Lecturer for degree courses in Civil Engineering at the Polytechnic University of Bari and at the Polytechnic University of Turin. Lecturer at TTPU (Tashkent Turin Polytechnic University) in Uzbekistan.
Troiano Prize 1992-96 of the Italian Geotechnical Association for the best doctoral dissertation in Geotechnical Engineering. Long time CNR researcher, he was Visiting Scientist at Golder Associates Inc in Seattle 1996, Senior Research Assistant at ETH (Federal High School of Zurich) from 2002 to 2006 (Department of Earth Sciences), consultant for GEODATA SpA, Turin and Golder Associates Spa, Turin.
His main scientific interests concern essentially the hydromechanical coupling and/or fluid flow in fractured rock masses and more generally computational geomechanics. He has also worked extensively on slope stability and tunnels.
Author of several publications in international and national journals and articles relating to conferences. He is member of the editorial board of Rock Mechanics and Rock Engineering.
